Default 2008 KLR650 breakdown, any ideas?

Hi, the other day my klr died without any discernible reason, acted like the battery was flat and finally restarted and seemed fine. Since then starting it has produced some loud and disconcerting clunky noises. It started tho.
Today, at speed., there was a clunk, a mechanical sort of “clunk”. Then not to long later it just stopped....died...I must have been doing 110 and all of a sudden it just went dead.
Coasted to a stop and when I tried to restart..... it it seemed like the starter was fine but had lost any physical connection to the motor. Needless to say, it would not go. So there it sits. Miles from nowhere....
    Any ideas?

Yes, I’m still about though not on the bike. It was diagnosed as having suffered from the dreaded “ deep hole syndrome” and now that has been repaired. New bushes made up and a longer shaft made and installed.
Then it was discovered that the top end has destroyed itself. Running low on oil, my fault, has caused it to fail dramatically.it really looks a mess and who knows what lies further in....
It’s going to cost more that’s the bike is worth to get it back on the road. Just what I needed......

Yeah once they run low on oil they are usually stuffed. Time to look for a new bike or second hand engine. Good luck with it.
