    I thought someone here had already posted their experiences, methods, contacts etc. on importing bikes.

    Failing that, visit the Australian CX500 Register (Google). If I did not read it here, I read it there. These are the only two forums I'm closely involved with.

    Though except for special cases I doubt it will beat buying locally as it appears neither quick, nor cheap, nor straightforward.

    A bloke I worked with in Brisbane imported a car from Japan. There is a big business in bringing cars from Japan so he used a reputable import broker that specialised in the import and compliance of secondhand cars from Japan. The car cost $9 grand secondhand, the import duties and cost of compliance brought the whole deal up to $20 - 22 grand.
    The car was a twin turbo skyline so in this case he got his money back a few years later when he sold it.
