klx250 prob
hi, have a klx250 (2001), but having trouble running
it is hard to start and once it does start, dies soon after
it was running when i brought it but had a ticking noise, so cheaked the valve clearance and hasent ran since. i also took the carbi out to fill in the restrictor and riped the cv diaphragm. so $200 later put a new 1 in but still no luck
i put a new spark plug in today started alot faster and ran for a while but stiil died
any advice would be helpful

hey klx,
at the other end of a computer it still sounds like a fuel problem to me. What happens when you put the choke on or off? What colour is your plug, is it fouled or dry? Is it leaking around the head and is your exhaust blocked. (I once solved a major mystery with a new exhaust)
Does it have a battery?
Is the problem new or did you buy it like that? have you thrown out the old petrol in the tank and drained the carbie bowls?
Is your plug the right one?
Anyway, something to think about,
good luck

hey thanks alot for the reply
choke makes no difference,
i have a brand new plug in it, its the right 1 and its a bit dark and wet when i pull it out
it dont think the head leaks, but im not sure if the exusts is blocked, alot of smoke comes out when it does start
yea it has a battery E/start only
when i brought it, it ran good and i rode it home
it still has the same petrol in it ( not sure how old it is)
thanks matt

Full Of It
Make sure the air filter is clean and check the fuel tap, it sounds like it's not getting enough air is being flooded by the carbies.

hey klx,
I'm with chunked, either not enough air or too much fuel. Clean the plug before each trial. If you have carbies, check the choke goes on and off. It sounds like something that you should be able to fix through trial and error if you have the time. Download a free manual from this site and hopefully it will have a trouble shooting section that will help you eliminate possible causes. The best thing about doing this is you'll improve your knowledge and skills. Also, think about what you have done to it since you bought it, what type of fuel you put in etc etc
good luck
