hi all
would any one be able to help with the type of fuel or additive to use on a standard z1000 1977.can i get away with unleaded if i keep my eye on valve clearances ?

the best thing to do is run 95 / 98 ron fuel's & add a valve additive ussually sold @ servo's .

I have the same Z1000 A1 (KZ1000 A1 if you live in the USA) restoration just about up to the reassembly stage and will be facing a similar quandary hopefully soon.
I spoke to an experienced engine builder who knows the older Japanese engines having raced them.
He said the Japanese were years ahead of the other manufacturers at the time and used stainless steel valve seats. ONLY use a premium 98 octane fuel like BP Ultimate (NOT Shell Optimax). Don't use standard 91/92 octane unleaded petrol.
If you want to, you could use an upper cylinder additive, it will not harm the engine.
Like you said, monitor the valve clearances and should not have any trouble.
