Hi Joffaboy, we discovered this last week (you need to get on the forum more :p) but tentatively planning an unofficial one to get us Vics together, maybe on the same day as the NSW one which looks like the only one happening Australia-wide :(
We could plan a nice route that suits all/most, and pray for good weather, and find somewhere nice to eat (chief purpose of ride, other than actually riding!) and maybe each tip in $$ for the charity as well.
Whaddaya think?

21-08-08, 10:56 AM
Sounds like a bloody great idea IMO, byo bbq and slap in $10 for Pink ribbon.

Now we just have find some nice National Park or lake or something similar which has coin-op barbeques, toilets, beautiful views and is a great ride to get to.
(even if you can't make it on the day, if you know of or live near somewhere like the above, POST IT HERE!

21-08-08, 11:29 AM
What day will that be? Hopefully I'll join you all.

21-08-08, 11:34 AM
NSW one (the only state to get it together ) is on
Sunday 19th October 2008
And 'twould be nice to have it on the same day, for the symbolism etc, but NOTHING SET IN STONE (YET)
Input from all welcome!

21-08-08, 11:37 AM
...and it would be great if you all do it on the same day - solidarity and so on. I still don't know why the otehrs aren't on - I will let you knwo if I hear anything.

21-08-08, 07:50 PM
Yeah, as we discussed last week it's a great cause & I think most of us if we can, would love to be involved. As for where, no idea, I dont get out & about too far too often to know. I will have hopefully moved by then & will be a bit more central to participate in some rides, especially over the spring/summer season coz we won't be living on the beach by then!!!!

24-08-08, 06:52 PM
No wonder I missed it
It was in the girl section I've been married 3 times won't go near the girl section
Post the ride details and I'll be there

24-08-08, 07:28 PM
Sugarloaf dam for lunch...via a ride out around cockatoo/ emerald/healsville areas probably get a coupla hundred k's out there somewhere....?

24-08-08, 07:56 PM
Old doc and I are kinda working a bit on this, details to come but thinking a bbq in Healesville somwhere, byo everything, $10 a head or so and proceeeds to Pink Ribbon, i've sent an email to Yarra Ranges council after a heads up as to the porcess, do we have to book a park/bbq etc but I might even go for a ride out that way Tuesday and see what I can find suitable.

24-08-08, 08:31 PM
I was gonna suggest Healesville-ish way too bens369! I thought that'd be pretty around spring time, and heaps of parks to choose from too. My worry was that is it just too enticing that some of the more 'experienced' may head for a fang around the spur, uh-oh, never done it before, Im sure id be fine but id prefer to do it with a smaller group first time round hehehe....

25-08-08, 08:19 AM
That's sort of the point re destination Winesy, at least there is a decent motorcycle route there. As for riding in a large group, given notihng is offically organised and this is just an idea in a very tiny brain (ie mine) at this stage, I wouldn't be too worried about that part :)

As always with a group ride, ride at your own pace, don't get suckerd into trying to follow some bloke who is knee down the whole way, it never works out well, been there done that, got the xrays to prove it :)

old doc
25-08-08, 12:02 PM
It probably won't be an enormous group, and I'm guessing there will be a good mix of experienced and not-so experienced riders (well there's me, for a start )
We'll all swap mobile numbers and maybe take it in turns to be the follow-upperer.
It will be good. We will have fun. The weather gods will smile upon us. :D

25-08-08, 08:19 PM
Well you can count me out! When I went to bed last night I forgot that we will have moved house by then & will be miiiles from there, oh well.... I'll be there in spirit Old Doc!

25-08-08, 08:21 PM
Hey mickdundee,
Not sure if you're misunderstanding my replies or im not wording it properly for everyone to understand but we always seem to have miscommunication, I realise there's great roads out there, but thanks for trying to tell me anyway hehehe. Just had 2 great holidays out that way but thanks anyways. Good luck with this project too Old Doc!

26-08-08, 08:48 PM
Well bit of an update, I like the solidarity idea so i'll work on 19th, destination I tohght Maroondah dam rather than Sugarloaf, yet t nut out a route so anyone that can offer assistance in that area would be much appreciated.

26-08-08, 09:12 PM
how's this for a route...
Maroondah hwy to the Glenburn hotel...left at Glenburn hotel then follow signs to Yea...once at Yea, a quick caffeine fix then return via Maroondah hwy to the Maroondah dam...
meeting place at chirnside park shopping centre ( reddings cinema )car park...
meet at 9.30am...leave at 10.00am...reaching lunch destination between 12 and 1pm...or there abouts...?
for your consideration...?:p

old doc
26-08-08, 09:35 PM
Sounds good. A further suggestion: what's the road from Yea through Toolangi & Chum Creek to Healesville like? Cos if it's ok then coming back from Yea that way would make a nice triangle. (But no good if it's a **** road)

26-08-08, 09:45 PM
Chum creek rd is dreamed about by many a motorcyclist :) If you do the Yarra ranges instructed rides they have of a summer you do that and a few other nice roads around the area, reefton spur et al.

old doc
26-08-08, 09:57 PM
OK why don't we do that then?
(Sorry it's not a very good screenshot)

old doc
27-08-08, 08:29 PM
Okay, what about this then:
Meet at Chirnside Park Shopping Centre
Maroondah Hwy to pub turnoff
Up to Yea for coffee & cake
Back through Toolangi & Chum Creek to Maroondah Reservoir Park (3km outside Healesville) for barbeque.

27-08-08, 08:32 PM
I'm down with that... http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_4_4v.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxmk788YYAU)

28-08-08, 12:35 PM
Yeah me too, i'll hopefully get a chasnce to get out Saturday or Sunday ebfore work and ride the route above to get a rough idea of the time it takes and if there are any hazards I need to be aware of.

Ideally i'd "like" to ride the route before we publish anything but if you want to start slapping it up on websites then i'm down with that too, just let em know if you do as then we're set in concrete and i'll do same with 3-4 forums that i'm on :)

Can't check this site from work btw so if you can email or give me a call if you go down that route would be appreciated.

Thanks guys

30-08-08, 12:18 PM
Ok got tomorrow off so when I wake up around 12ish i'll head off and try get this route sorted and finalised then we can start plugging it :)

01-09-08, 04:20 PM
Bit of an update, I hate night shift completely screws my internal clock, anyways, today I had off not yesterday. So I knocked off work 6:30am was up at 10:30am getting my **** together, dropped an old work uniform off at one place, dropped a ladder off to a bloke at another place then headed for Chirnside park SC.

I headed straight up the Maroondah Hwy looking for the pub to turn left at, never found it :) Arrived at Maroondah dam, talked to the ranger there re the logistics of the gig, booked the venue, now I just need a cheque organised to seal it, will be organising that Wednesday/Thursday.

I was asked for a gusstimate on numbers, I sort of expect around the 100 mark but given that motorcycling is a small circle and word can move kinda fast I couldn't give him an official number as such, so if intending to turn up 18th Oct please reply here or PM me.

I've been asked by the ranger to contact police and marshalls on the off chance we get 600 turn up and that would basically book the park out.

I've been asked by them to ensure all motorbikes are parked in the car park rather than on the grass, plenty of space there, car park is NOT sealed but it's not loose gravel so for those not that confident on dirt raods just take it easy ad you'll be fine.

Thre are 2 electric bbq's in place, they're free, no coins needed but given that there is only 2 hotplates I might try arrange anothe rgas bbq of our own and I might take the cage if it comes to that, an update on that after I hopefully contact WIMA and the MRA re a BBQ and marshalls.

So in summary, no real route organised as that might depend on coppers, $10 per head all going to Pink Robbon charity, byo everything, 18th Oct leaving chirnside park SC 10am ish.

Please RSVP to me or this thread.

Wasn't it Sunday 19th?? What date has been booked?

01-09-08, 05:21 PM
NSW one (the only state to get it together ) is on
Sunday 19th October 2008

I guess it doesn't have to be Sunday

01-09-08, 06:03 PM
Sorry pps I booked the 18th simply because it was easier for the park. Evidently the joint gets chockers with Joe Public type people on a Sunday.

01-09-08, 06:12 PM
sorry...my fopar...it was the Melba hwy to the Glenburn hotel, then left into Break Oday rd following it until we hit Whittlesea Yea rd, turning right ,then onto Yea...
it's quite a nice ride and there should be minimal traffic as it's off the main drag...once you're off the Melba...

01-09-08, 06:20 PM
Can imagine the place jam-packed on a fine Sunday. 18th it is then.
I doubt we'll get 600, but 100-odd is conceiveable if we start hittting other websites asap.
What about a quick show of hands on here?

? Winesy
? PK
Bet GPXbabe will be hanging out for a ride after long cold winter
Joffaboy won't want to miss it
? baby ninjas

02-09-08, 03:20 PM
Im not certain for anything, with the way things going down here I'll never get out of here. On the other hand, if I have moved by then, it'll be far away but the other side of town this time. A very slight possibility though... very very slight...

02-09-08, 06:54 PM
Well another in the line of updates, posted on the MRA forum and they informed me Netrider were organising a Pink ribbon ride, well turns out they couldn't get anyone to put their hadns up, talk to a bloke at work who tells me the Vic Masonic Motorcyclists Assoc is running one, turns out they aren't either but happy to support the event.

Talked to police today, as long as we keep the ride small and obey all traffic laws then they're happy enough not to provide an escort, so at this stage all I need to do is drum up a cheque for $150 to cover the venue which i'll do Thursday probably and recruit some corner markers and parking marshalls to ensure riders use the car park rahter than the grass and that noone gets lost, soo al systems go still.

Good onya Mick for keeping it rolling.
Now we have a firm date, and in-principle approval from plod we can set about making it public.

Date: Saturday 18 October
Meeting point: Chirnside Park Shopping Centre, Redding's cinema ??? carpark (oops we need more detail/precision here)
Time: 9.30 am for 10.00 departure
Cost:$10.00 per rider to go to (where? Anti Cancer Council? The NSW ride $ goes to NSW Breast Cancer Institute. Do we have a Vic equivalent?)
BYO food & refreshment
Destination/route: Maroondah Hwy to Glenburn Pub turnoff then left into Break Oday rd to Whittlesea Yea Rd, then onto Yea. Stop for coffee in Yea, return to Maroondah Reservoir Park Via Toolangi & Chum Creek. Barbeque, eat, drink, socialize, home whenever.

OK, Websites. These are the ones I know of:
VicRiders' Space (VixenAndrea's baby)
Girls Ride out Melbourne (started by Amberley from Brighton Kawasaki)
Ulysses are bound to be supportive, maybe any U members on here can spread word...

02-09-08, 08:37 PM
I've put it up at Netrider, MRA, here, Kawasaki sportsbike riders club and Race replica. My thoughts re $ were as the title suggests, Pink Ribbon, so breast cancer research, if people want to do the Anti cancer Council or the McGrath foundation even i'm not fussed, don't really want to deal with the money side of things to be honest other than to donate :)

Yes Readings cinema car park, sort of all in one anyways but it's the one on the left as you enter the SC from Maroondah Hwy.

Done a bit of Googling, seems the Vic Cancer Council is the peak body for Pink Ribbon activities. I sort of know someone who works there, so I'll make contact & get some more detail.

02-09-08, 10:01 PM
Works for me, thanks doc.

26-09-08, 09:59 PM
Hello Old Doc et al,

Will put this in my calendar.
If nothing is change at the last minute, I am in for the ride.

27-09-08, 11:05 AM
Bet GPXbabe will be hanging out for a ride after long cold winter

Old Doc, you have no idea ....... Still smarts that I can't do the GP Run this year.... anyway, things are looking up - looks like the other half hasn't managed to organise his lads weekend away, the bike looks to be all mine for the 18th. Wild horses wouldn't keep me away :D:D:D May bring a friend, too....

27-09-08, 12:14 PM
One bike family huh that must be rough :)
