Welcome Paulyn It may be a baby but it can still bite you.
A good learning ride is from Kingston to Sandy Bay. I rode this road every day. Way back some time :) Be very careful from the casino to the city. It can be a death trap The snobs will run of the road if you dont keep an eye open. I am Shelly's better half ;) and ride the black beast :D soon to be blue.

Are there?? I'm on the lookout for people to go riding with and anyone I meet on these forums are all from Hobart. Surely someone wants to watch the football live and therefore lives in Launceston. :p

Gonna gather up my courage and go a run out that way through Scottsdale one day soon. I took the car that way once, I spent the entire trip going "Yep, totally a bike road!" :D

Scottsdale through to St. Helens is a good ride. Make sure you stop in at Weldborough pub on the way....lotsa bike pics on the board inside. Good lunch to be had at the Pub in Paddock at Pyengana or the cheese factory as well.

Hey guys i'm Jake!

I turn 18 next week, I want to get my motorbike license in the next month or so, then i'm looking to spend about $4500 on a nice bike from Melb, prob a CBR250 or something, Anyway, dunno if anyone reads these, so yeah!

Hi Jake,

Welcome aboard. lol CBRs eh? The skyline of the bike world. Personally, I don't understand the attraction but then I haven't met a boy that didn't like them so I guess it's just me. :p

The problem I found when considering buying a bike from Melbourne was Victoria isn't on LAMS - which means that their prices for their 250's were still pretty high. I don't know if it's the same 8 months on (LAMS was only just brought on board when I got my license) but you should probably do some price comparisons - just because they have more of them doesn't necessarily mean they are cheaper.

I picked up both my ZZRs for under $3000 here - with the only additional costs being change over for the regos. Both were private sales and if I have any advice about the dealers it would be "be careful!" .. Shearwater in particular make me edgy. They sold my friend a GPX with a 'mystery' button claiming they didn't know what it was for. It turns out it was to switch his engine fan on and off - and THEY installed it. (We haven't worked out why you would want a switch on your engine fan anyway!)

So yes, shop around. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Not that you really asked for advice - but there it is anyway. ;)

Thanks, Shelly. I tried to tell my mate this today but apparently he's already worked it out for himself. (No one tells me nuffin!) Turns out the thermostat was broken and instead of replacing it they just disconnected the engine fan and put it on a switch. Now the switch is broken and the bikes overheats at the drop of a hat.. as evidenced by the coolant fluid all over my driveway. Gotta love the botch job..

Hi everyone,
just got back from Melbourne after going over to pick up Dozer my new black 1400 GTR. The thing that amazed me was that it cost me $2500 cheaper than anywhere in Tassie. The local dealers just don't want to deal and need to wake up and start looking after Tassie people. The Tasrats are a great group of people and unlike the Italian motorcycle club don't care what size or type your bike is. They meet at Richmond on the last Sunday of the month at 10 am in sunmmer and 11 am in winter. Anyway I love the new GTR and can't wait to start tearing up some of our great Tassie roads. Oh! The link for Tasrats is http://groups.msn.com/TasRATs

Paulyn,
just did a ride to Bothwell with the Tasrats were I met up with Shelly and the Head Mechanic. The Tasrats are good group and welcome anyone along on their rides. They normally have their rides on the last Sunday of the month and meet at Richmond at 11 am in the colder months and at 10 am in summer. You are more than welcome to come along and you will be made feel most welcome. They really don't care what type or size of bike you ride it is about the ride. Check out their site http://groups.msn.com/TasRATs
Anyway may catch you on one of the rides.
